The Old Cinemas of Prague / The Fleeting Magic of Darkened Theatres
Tomáš Dvořák, Jan Rousek
The City of Prague Museum, 2016
This book, which accompanies The Old Cinemas of Prague exhibition, contains in addition to the texts a wide array of pictures – posters, historical photographs, historical maps of Prague with the highlighted cinemas, and cinema programmes. The film projection locations in the metropolis from the late 19th century to the recent past are presented as distinctive reminders of bygone times. The interiors of the many cinemas, scattered all over Prague, had a specific atmosphere and represented one of the most popular types of audio-visual entertainment which was available to all. For many years, the audience came to see their film heroes, which for most of them was the only way to experience the impressive atmosphere of the film projection.
