Based on the recommendation of the Strategy of Improved Care for Traditional Folk Culture (government resolution No. 571/2003) and the Strategy of Improved Care for Traditional Folk Culture in the Czech Republic 2011–2015 (government resolution No. 11/2011), the City of Prague authorized the City of Prague Museum to administer the Regional Specialized Department for Traditional Folk Culture in the City of Prague (hereinafter “Regional Department”).
To align with the aforementioned Strategy, the care for the traditional folk culture and its preservation for future generations is the main task of the Regional Department.
Primarily, it ensures continuous identification and documentation of phenomena and changes of traditional folk culture in the city of Prague, recoding and depositing the acquired materials in museum collections, presentation, promotion and popularization of the folk culture research results, assembling the regional list of non-material estates of the traditional folk culture, submitting proposals for enlisting in regional and national lists of non-material estates of the traditional folk culture and providing methodical and information support to cooperating individuals and institutions engaged in traditional folk culture.
The Regional Department cooperates with the National Institute of Folk Culture in Strážnice and Department of Regional and National Culture of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic to accomplish the Strategy.
